Creation / Community / Commerce
The Women of King's Cross exhibition celebrates the extraordinary women who, over the last three centuries, have impacted the world around us. The women profiled hail from different walks of life and work across different disciplines – politics, science, commerce, the arts. All are women of vision, grit and skill, each with a connection to King’s Cross.
Commissioned by King’s Cross Central LP, we were brought in to design, curate and deliver this timely exhibition. During the research phase, we developed an X-stitch typeface as a subtle representation of the weaving together of the community and how women play an integral role in the fabric of society as well a nod to the X which is representative of the King’s Cross brand.
Some of the historical figures featured in the exhibition are instantly recognisable, such as Virginia Woolf and Mary Wollstonecraft, but the King’s Cross of today has no shortage of inspirational women either – Kristina Glenn is tackling entrenched poverty, designer Berni Yates is opening up the arts to disadvantaged young people, and Vivian Li is making a difference in the world of cancer research.
This exhibition is a tribute to the spirit, talent and achievements of the Women of King’s Cross - past, present and future.
